The Bulgarian personal computer (PC) market grew by 39.6% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2008, international Information technology researcher IDC said on Wednesday.
sales of notebooks went up by 58.3%, while desktop sales increased by 17.5% on the year in the fourth quarter of 2008, IDC said in a statement. It provided no sales figures.
Notebook sales accounted for 61.6% of all sales of personal computers in the fourth quarter of 2008, while mini-notebooks’ market share was 8.6%.
IDC expects demand for desktops and notebooks to remain strong in Bulgaria. Price will remain a key factor, particularly in retail, with large-scale notebook promotion campaigns expected.
"In the fourth quarter of 2008, the global financial meltdown had more of a psychological than a real effect on the Bulgarian PC market. The greatest short-term impact, however, will be felt in the first and second quarters of 2009," Evelin Stoev, Senior Analyst of IDC Bulgaria said in the statement.
Bulgarian Information and communication technology (ICT) market will grow at an annual average rate of 13.4% until 2012, IDC said in March.
